ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT

Blackdown Clothing recognises its responsibilities for the environment and is committed to working towards minimising the environmental impacts of its activities.

The Company accepts that it can only achieve its business objectives if the operational performance of its activities, along with the products and services it supplies, reflects the changing environmental priorities of the society it serves. Where appropriate we will endeavour to meet the standards outlined in all relevant statutory legislation.

We will work towards the prevention of pollution and improvement in environmental performance by: -

- Working with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment;

- The conservation of energy and natural resources;

- The reduction and where possible the elimination of wastes, emissions and nuisance product by the Company;

- The promotion of recycling and re-use of waste materials ensuring that the methods of disposal for un-usable waste are appropriate; and

- Minimising the risks of environmental accidents and in conjunction with appropriate authorities ensure an emergency response capable to deal with accidental pollution.

We will ensure that our employees possess the necessary knowledge and skills to implement in full our policy. Training will concentrate on the impact of our work activities on the environment, the role that they can play within their jobs to meet environmental objectives and the benefits of improved environmental performance.

Our Sub-contractors will be expected to fully embrace the contents of our policy and to demonstrate their support through their active participation and co-operation. Their performance will be assessed annually to determine their level of commitment to this essential business area.

We will monitor, not only our performance against agreed targets, but also that of our sub-contractors to ensure that the environmental impact of our operations do not have a negative effect on the local community or environment.

Employees, contractors and the local community will be consulted on how best we can implement this policy and to suggest ways of continually improving the Company’s environmental performance.

This Environmental Policy will be displayed at all our sites and may be distributed to all interested parties.

We are proud of our commitement to the world in which we live and work - and policys are great - but what does this really mean? Take a look at how this policy has changed the way we work:

In July 2019 we stopped the use of brand new, branded cardbox boxes for shipping orders to customers - opting instead to re-use the boxes our supplers send to us. We beleve as a customer you already know our brand and we hope you would prefer that box to be reused as often as possible - before been recycled - each reuse of an item helps increase its whole life value - and reduces the raw materials we as a society use to make these boxes - its a little change - but makes a big difference.

in September 2019 we decieded to look at our use of plastic packaging when shipping orders, plastic works well for shipping orders, it keeps clothing clean and dry and is more robust through the parcel network than say cardboard or paper packaging,. We wanted to stop using platic altogether - but tests with alternatives showed that goods simply didnt arrive in the perfect condition we expect (Yes we really did post items to ourself!) We figured if we couldnt get rid of plastic completely perhaps we could look at they type of plasic we were using - the packaging we were using wasnt easily recyclable - a simple change to a range of postage bags that were 100% Recylable and ensuring that this was clearly marked on the bag meant that we could have the benefits of plastic in terms of ensuring our products arrived with our customers in prisitne condition, knowing full well that our customers could dispose of the packaging in a responable manner. 100% of our plastic pagaging in now totally recycalable- its a little change - but makes a big difference.
